University Christian Church was created and exists to bring glory to God.

University Christian Church is a living and active family of God
that desires to help the lost, the seeking and the hurting to
become maturing followers of Jesus Christ.

We believe first and foremost the church must be a "house of prayer for all nations"
(Mark 11:17). There are many misconceptions about how to
pray or what prayer is. Prayer is simply having a conversation with God. A relationship is
impossible without communication, and a relationship with God requires prayer. We encourage
and motivate people, including the members of the University Christian Church family, to
talk with God everyday. As each individual learns more about and spends time in prayer, the
University Christian Church family as a whole will grow closer to God and become stronger
by unlocking the power of God in our lives and our church
(1 Thessalonians 5:17).

The definition of worship means to appreciate God for all that He has done and all
that He will do. We want the people who worship at University Christian to gain a
deeper appreciation for God each and every day. We believe that worship involves
change and that when we come face-to-face with God change is inevitable. Real and
authentic worship means that we must be truthful with ourselves and with God
(John 4:24).

After a child is born, a parent begins teaching that child how to feed himself. We
will work to equip and encourage people to know how to feed themselves and grow
spiritually. We want all people to know that God is never finished with them. He
wants lasting and continual change so we can better live out His will in this life.
We believe that God, as promised, has started "a good work" in us at University
Christian Church and that He will finish it (Philippians 1:6).

God has created every person with certain passions, talents and spiritual gifts. We
want to help people discover these passions, talents and spiritual gifts so that
they can serve in ministry in a way that honors God's purposes, as well as help
individuals find satisfaction in their service. Using one's God-given gifts in service
to God's glory makes University Christian Church and God's Kingdom stronger
(Matthew 20:26b, 28).

Jesus told us to love our neighbors as much as we love ourselves and even as much as
He loves people. We want the people at University Christian Church to express authentic
love naturally to anyone God puts in their paths. Our members' natural response should
be serving and meeting others' needs. We will always strive to stand on the side of
love and never on the side of judgment. We believe that is the passion of the Great
Commandment heart (Matthew 22:37-39).

You usually don't have to work very hard to get individuals to talk about their
children. Telling about the wonderful things Jesus has done in one's life should be
as easy as talking about one's children. We at University Christian Church work to
give insight and training to help individuals effectively share their faith in Christ
every time God presents the opportunity. We believe that when we share Jesus we are
simply sharing sincere love to those around us
(Romans 12:9).

Many people have a negative impression of church as it relates to money and giving.
God talks more about money and giving in the Bible than He does about heaven. We want
people who are a part of University Christian Church to learn the importance of and
the spiritual benefits of tithing and giving generously for God.s work in this life
in the same way that God has shown generosity to each and every person
(2 Corinthians 9:7).

When Moses talked to God face-to-face he could have asked God for anything he wanted,
but he asked only for one thing: "Show me your glory!" Our deepest desire is to
glorify God in all that we do at University Christian Church. We want to see God's
glory in each and every ministry and aspect of our church. By seeking God's glory we
are not seeking our own. We must become less and less, and He must become greater and
greater (John 3:30).

In January 2005, our elders and pastors met in a leadership retreat that included
prayer to God, study of the Word and dialogue about the best ways University
Christian Church could work for the glory of God. Pastor Daniel Kitchel presented
a list of core values that God had placed in his heart, and this set of core values
was adopted by the elders. It was only then that those assembled noticed that the
first letters of each value spelled the word 'passion.'
